WANGANUI NOMINEE IN “MISS N.Z.” QUEST
Miss Kathleen O’Toole Tlie first Wanganui nominee in the "Miss New Zealand Quest’’ was named last night. She is Miss Kathleen O'Toole, B.H.Sc., and she is being -ponsored by the Wanganui Kinder--ir.en Association, which controls the tree kindergartens in the city and is affiliated to the New Zealand Free Kindergarten Union, started in Dunedin 60 years ago. Miss O Toole is 24 years of age and is the daughter of Mrs. A. N. T. O’Toole, of Wanganui. She was educated at the Wanganui Girls’ College for five years and in her final year was a prefect, house captain and games captain, was the winner of a gold bar for conduct, deportment and sport.
At the Otago University she studied for four years and gained her Bachelor of Home Science degree. During that time she was student president of St. Helen’s hostel and
later was appointed to the part-time staff as sub-warden. She was awarded the Otego University Blue and New Zealand Universities’ Blue for hockey and represented Otago University in athletics and in minor association tennis. She also represented Wanganui and Otago province in hockey, and is the holder of a bronze medallion and bars for life saving and long distance swimming. She was a member of the Girl Guide Movement tor 11 years and leader of the Girls' College Guide Company. In music Miss O'Toole qualified to grade seven. She is at present leader of the Girls’ College group of the junior Red Cross. She is on the teaching staff of the college. “We are very happy indeed to be associated with the ‘Miss New Zealand Quest ’,’ said a member of the Wanganui Kindergarten Association last night, "both for the reason that we will be helping a local girl and that our association will benefit under the rebate of funds scheme. Thl:: will mean that our association will be able to raise funds to help our own work.”
The rebate scheme referred to provides that a third of all amounts in excess of £lOO and between £lOl am £2OO, is refunded to the sponsoring body. On all amounts in excess of £lOO, between £2Ol and £3OO, the sponsoring body will get back 40 per cent., and on amounts in excess of £lOO, from £3Ol and over, it will get back 50 per cent.
