BRITAIN HAS FOUND NO FORMULA TO TAKE PLACE OF HARD WORK
ROME, April 30.—Britain has found that no magic formula can be substituted for hard work and self-disci-pline, said Sir Stafford Cripps at the British Embassy today. He warned countries belonging to the Organisation for European Economic Co-op-eration that the time was short and the road to recovery very difficult. He said “Unless we make an effort now and during the period of grace which the generosity of the American people provided, we shall find that unpleasant adjustments will be forced upon us at tlie end of the European recovery programme. We have no time to spare. Three years is a terribly short time in wliich to solve our remaining problems.” Asked whether he thought the revaluation is neither necessary nor will it take place.” He said convertibility of sterling certainly remained Britian’s ultimate goal, but for the present it remained a rather distant goal.
