“At Home” At The Home Of Compassion
Helpers and friends of the Aubert Home of Compassion, Wanganui, were the guests of the Sisters on Saturday afternoon at an ‘‘At Home.” The gathering was presided over by Mr. J. C. James. Among those present were the Mayor, the Hon. W. J. Rogers, M.L.C. and Rev. Father J. Cullen S.M. Mr. James in welcoming the visitors said all were acquainted with the devoted work of the Sisters of Compassion in the city and up the river. For the Sisters, Mr. James thanked all who had contributed to the Home in the past year and those who had assisted in the recent street day appeal. The Mayor paid tribute to the work of the sisters and their valued assistance in the community. During the afternoon items were contributed by the following talented artists: Pipe selection, Mr. T. Mulcahy; \ocal solo, Miss M. Rowe; piano duet, Misses K. and L. Roache; Highland fling, Miss B. Laird; vocal solo, Miss A. Bousefield; cornet duet, Brook and Clive Batten; gavotte, Miss L. Elliot vocal solo, Miss M. Dobson; instrumental trio, Messrs. J. London, W. Briggs and I. Tonks. Mrs. Lennon who organised the programme was thanked, as were the artists lor their entertaining numbers which were much appreciated by the sisters and inmates. Afternoon tea was served.
