MAN CONVICTED OF MURDER OVERSEAS
Minister Opposes Giving Further Particulars WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA). —No .good purpose would be served at this stage by publication of further particulars of the crime, said the Minister of Defence (Mr. Jones), when asked today for details of the murder fop which Isaac Johnson had been convicted and sentenced to death while serving overseas with the New Zealand forces. His sentence, imposed by a military court-martial, was commuted to life imprisonment. Johnson, who was returned to New Zealand to serve his sentence, was released last year after serving under five years. Last month Johnson was convicted at Marton and sentenced to two months’ imprisonment with hard labour for common assault on a girl aged 16.
