DAMAGED BRIDGE NEAR ERUA REPAIRED
Wanganui-National Park Route To Reopen According to advice received from the Wanganui Office of the Ministry of Works last night the Waimarino Stream bridge near Erua will be open for traffic from 10.30 today. On Tuesday last, when a transporter was conveying a bulldozer across the bridge it collapsed, and two fnen on the transporter had a miraculous escape from death. The accident necessitated motorists travelling southward to detour at National Park, via the National ParkTurangi highway and Desert Road, to Waipuru, a distance,of 65 miles compared with 325 miles on the normal route. Motorists travelling northward had to detour at Waiouru and go via the Desert Road.
