TWO NOMINATIONS FOR VACANT SEAT ON WAITOTARA COUNTY
Two nominations have been received for the vacancy on the Waitotara County Council causer* by the resignation of thxj Mosston Riding representative the late M r H. Titter. The by-election will be held on May 18 and three polling booths will be used Two will be at Mosston and orte at the county office. The nominees ate* — Mr Frederick William Gould, Wanganui represent alive on the Waterfront Industry Commission. Mr David Croth«rs, stock dealer. The candidates spoke to ratepayers of Mosston at a meeting on Thursday night, when both stated that they were opposed to the inclusion of Mosston within the Wanganui City Councils area but recognised the need for a drainage scheme for the district. Members of the audience were told
that the county council had promised . a meeting of ratepayers before any step was taken to meet the Health Department’s directive about drain- ( age. Independently the speakers informed the meeting that they were opposed to > Mosston passing from county to city control because of the added rate burden that would come with such ap
change. Mossion's drainage, however, they recognised as an important matter and a project that should be pushed forward. Presiding; at the meeting was Mr S. Taggart. Secretarial duties were undertaken by Mr J. Croasdale- and those who attended were thanked for the interest they had shown in count j affairs.
