' ANZAC SERVICE Incessant rain caused the R.S.A. Parade to be cancelled on Anzac Day but there was a large attendance at the service in the Town Hall which was conducted by the Revs. N. Williams and C. W. Watt. Major Keesing M. C. gave the address and hymns were played by the Marton Brass Band. Alter the service members ot the R.S.A., Scouts and Cubs proceeded to the monument in the school grounds where wreaths were laid and and the Last Post sounded. MAORI CHURCH DANCE The Turakina Hall dance floor reputed to be the best in the district, will be the venue of a dance on Saturday, April 30th, sponsored by the Maori Social committee, to raise funds for repairs to the Maori Church. Marton dance enthusiasts are advised that, for their convenience, a bjus will leave Crofton, while Wanganui fans are catered for with a bus which leaves Martin and Vernons. Featured in the programme are a number of Maori items as well as novelty and prize dances. Music will be supplied by Marks orchestra and everyone is assured of a good time. GOLF A 36 Stableford match was played last weekend at the Whangaehu golf course, the winner being L. A. Wilson with a score of 75. Next weekend a Medal round will be played. SCHOOL FANCY DRESS BALL The school teaching staff is having a busy time teaching the pupils new dances for their annual fancy dress ball which will take place on Wednesday, May 4th.
