Wanganui Plunket Society
At jthe April Committee meeting of the Plunket Society, Wanganui, conducted by Mrs. Jenkins in the absence of the President, a message from Mrs. Robertson was read, thanking all committee members and others who had worked to achieve such a very satisfacory result at the Garden Party held on March 26. She wished especially to thank those responsible for tidying up at the end of the function—everything had been left in perfect order. The opinion was voiced by members present that the function had been a success, not only from the financial point of view, but because a happy atmosphere had prevailed throughout. The thanks of all were expressed to Mrs. Robertson for allowing it to be held at her residence. Mrs. T. G. Hackshaw was unanimously elected to fill a vacancy which had occurred on the general committee. A report read from the Matron of Stewart Karitane Hospital gave an admission list of 17 mothers and 28 babies for March, and the Plunket Nurse reported a total of 830 babies on her register at the end of the month. The general health of the babies had been fairly good. The following receipts to Plunket District Fund were reported, and acknowledged with thanks —Durie Hill subBranch, £22 14s, Aramoho Sub Branch £45 7s lOd, Gonville Sub Branch £45 7s lOd, Wanganui East Sub Branch on account of Annual Report expenses £2 10s, Wanganui City Council grant £2O, and Mr. H. Goodwin donation £lO. Grateful acknowledgement was expressed to the following branches, for contributions received since last meeting towards Stewart Karitane Hospital expenses: Taumarunui Plunket Society £lO, Eltham £lO, Marton 150, Waimarino £lO, Napier’ £25, Taihape £l5 10s, Hawera £5 ss, Dannevirke £5, Wairoa £lO, Pahiatua’ £5, Waipawa £5, Waitotara £1 Is, Mangaweka £7 7s, Raetihi £lO, Stratford £5 ss. At the conclusion of the meeting, plans were discussed for the holding of the next effort, which it was thought should take place early in June.
