WAVERLEY-WAITOTARA SHEEP DOG TRIALS

WAVERLEY, Last Night (0.C.) The Waverley-Waitotara Sheep Dog trials, held on Mr. W. C. Simson’s property at Kohi, Waverley, attracted record entries in all the heading events., and the short head and yard and maiden events were not finished until Wednesday. The weather was favourable and a large crowd of spectators was present on both days. Specials: The club trophy, a barometer, for the open huntaway, was won by Mr. R. Guthrie, of Eltham. The McKenzie Cup for the open longnead was won by Mr. E. Morrow, of Rahutu, and the Waitotara Cup for open short head and yard was won by Mr. R. O. White, Maxwell. Mr. Hebdon’s Cup for local man with maiden dog with most points in long and short head was won by Mr. J. H. Baker, Whenuakura. Points and results were:— Open huntaway: R. The president. Mr. M. M. Scott, when presenting the prizes for the huntaway and long head on Tuesday expressed the appreciation of the club to Mr. W. C. Simson, whose property has been used for the trials for manyyears, also to the ladies of the Kohi Women’s Institute who made an excellent job of the catering, and Mr. P. Forrester, Nukumaru, the judge who carried on until he was unable to see each day, and all donors to the prize fund, including Mr. Hebdon, of Patea. who presented a cup and £7 7s for a local event. On Monday Mr. Scott presented Mr. G. Booker with a gift in appreciation of the work he has done for the club over the many years he has been a member. Mr. Booker has left the district.
