RURAL FIRE AREA NORTH AND EAST OF WANGANUI GAZETTED
WELLINGTON. Last Night (PA).— The Tuwharetoa Rural Fire District is formally constituted, together with appropriate regulations, in tonight's Gazette. The area involved is 335.000 acres lying to the north and east of Wanganui. The administering committee is to consist of nine members. Three are to be Government representatives (the State Forest Service, the Department of Maori Affairs, and the Department of Lands and Survey), four to five Maori representatives who are to be appointed by Maori forest owners, one is to represent the sawmillers' interests, and one to be the occupiers’ representative.
The registrar of the Aotea District Maori Land Board is to be the returning officer for appointments of Maori, occupiers’ and sawmillers’ representatives in cases where ballots are necessary.
