Annual Meeting Of Gonville Sub-Branch Of Plunket Society

The seventh annual meeting of the Gonville sub-branch of the Society was held on Wednesday evening. Mrs. H. D. Robertson, president of the Wanganui branch, presided over a good attendance of members and mothers. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mrs. C. S. Ryan; vice-presidents, Mesdames Foster, Newman, Rosser; secretary Mrs. L. Lillicrap; treasurer, Mrs. G.’ Brown; committee, Mesdamcs B. Chisholm, S. Harrison, D. Caiman, Clapperton, Donaghy, D. Hewitson, W. Laird, M. Patterson, M. Pedley, M. Wadey, A. Turnbull, L. Brassell, E. Montieth, Kearns, J. Johnstone, G. Gray, Leitch, M. Waugh, Whiteman, Laing and Thomas. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr. John Ryal. as honorary auditor.

The annual report and balancesheet were read and adopted, and at this stage Mrs. Robertson remarked that she considered the friendly spirit and the congenial atmosphere which was shown by the sub-branch committee at the meetings had helped considerably in making the year’s work successful. In her short and interesting address Mrs. Robertson spoke of the work of the late Sir Truby King and the ideals for which he had worked. Through the Plunket organisations throughout New Zealand, his great work, she said, was being carried on, and the society was fortunate in having a leader such as Dr. Helen Deem, whose noble work was well known in medical and nursing circles. Mrs. F. A. Newman then spoke of Mrs. C. S. Ryan’s leadership as president of the sub-branch, and a vote of thanks for her loyal work to the branch was unanimously carried. The annual fair held in March produced a profit of £57, and the committee wished to extend its thanks to all who had helped and donated goods. Especial thanks were extended to the Orphanage Trust Board for the use of the grounds and to St. Peter’s Church for the use of trestles, etc. Membership has increased and now stands at 104 financial members, and subscriptions are of considerable help. The committee members did splendid work for the sub-branch throughout the year, which augurs well for the new year entered upon.
