Wangaehu Branch

There was a good attendance of members at the February meeting of the W.D.F.F., which was held at Fairfield, the home of Mrs C. G. Bignell. Wangaehu Valley. The president- Mrs Hawken, welcomed members and thanked Mrs Bignell for placing her home at the disposal of the division for their meeting.

After some discussion it was agreed that the branch should take advantage of the bulk scheme of sending food parcels to Britain, providing that th e West Ham Central Mission would undertake the distribution to the members to whom parcels had previously been sent separately. This scheme would save postage, thus releasing more money to b e spent on food. A decision to hold a shop day on March 18 met with general approval. Stallholders appointed for the day wer e Mesdames Mackintosh, Hawken, Stockdale and helpers. A donation of £5 from Mrs C. Baldwin towards funds was gratefully acknowledged.

The idea of preceding the proposed handwork display at the A. and P. show with an educational display of the activities and achievements of the W.D.F.F. was fully discussed, and the delegate was instructed to put forward this together with an educational remit for conference to th e next provincial meeiing. On the suggestion of the president it was unanimously agreed that the next meeting should take the form of a picnic meeting at Virginia Lake, members taking their own picnic luncheon, afternoon tea being obtained there. It is hoped that, given a fine day, there will be a full gathering of members.

Competition results were: Best bloom; Mrs Reilly 1, Mrs Fredrick 2; best shrub, Mrs McNtfught 1, Mrs Fredrick 2.
