No Plans For Main Trunk Line To By-Pass Ohakune
The General Manager of the New Zealand Railways Department (Mr. F. W. Aickin, Welling* ton) has made it clear that there is as yet no proposal involving the realignment of the Main Trunk Railway to by-pass Ohakune.
Recently reports were published of statements made in Ohakune, that electrification of the line envisaged a route which would take the line on the other side of tMt. Ruapehu to that on which Ohakune is situated, and that plans for electrification of the line had reached the blueprint stage. Mr. Aickin said that there was no foundation for the report that Ohakune was to be by-passed, and that the report that electrification plans had reached the blue-print stage was premature.
