RUSSIA ADDED TO IMPORTANT WHEAT STEERING COMMITTEE
WASHINGTON, Feb 4 (Recd 6 pm). Russia was today elected to an 11nation steering committee of the International Wheat Conference, thereby gaining a direct say in price negotiations. Observers believe Russia’s election indicated that major exporting countries and importers are taking seriously Russia’s offer to become major wheat exporter under the proposed agreement. The Soviet is reported to have offered to supply 20 per cent of all wheat sought by importers under the agreement. This would probably amount to more than 100,000,000 bushels a year. Her present exports are about one-third of that total.
