N.Z. Immigration Escapee Being Held In San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 13 (Rec. 6 pm).—A 27-year-old New Zealander, Robert J. McGowan who, with an Australian, James Jessup, was ringleader in the recent attempted mass escape from immigration detention quarters here, will be held indefinitely for further action, immigration officials said today. Jessup, who lives in Sydney, will be deported to Australia in tire Aorangi. which leaves Vancouver on Thursday. The officials added they had decided not. to charge Jessup with having been implicated in the break. They gave no reason fo r McGowan being detained longer than Jessup.
