THE HON. J. ROBERT’S LAND POLICY.

Sir,—l was very amused to read in your columns the expressed opinions of the Hon J. Roberts that the Labour Government’s land policy was not as courageous as that of the Seddon Liberal Government. My memory goes back to that Labour Party conference in the south of about 1936, held under the presidency of the same J. Roberts. At that conference the resolution was discussed and passed into the policy of the Labour Party that: “The Labour Government would never introduce a vast land settlement policy, because those settled on the land would only vote against them. The Liberal Party did tnat and they were put out by the very people they had settled on the land. We shall not be so foolish as to make the same mistake.” I have never heard of that resolution having been rescinded, yet the Hon. J. Roberts is still the president of the same party that made it.—l am, etc., “BULLS-WOOL.”
