OF LYCHGATES
Sir,—Beautifying the city in which cne lives should always be one of the chief concerns of a good citizen, and your readers, no doubt, appreciated your editorial on the subject. You wrote on Lychgates and how attractive they can be, and the im provement they- can make to the appearance of a city. You also say that it would “add to the dignity and to the interest, of Victoria Avenue if the three churches that front it. were to have Lychgates.” It will, no doubt, interest many of your readers to know that the Church of England (Christ Church) intends erecting a Lychgate on Victoria Avenue in the near future. An appeal was made some 18 months ago. This Lychgate will also be a memorial to the men of the parish who gave their lives in the two world wars. Their names will be inscribed in a plaque in the depth of the gate. I should be pleased to receive from relatives, as . oon as possible, the names of all men of the parish who gave their lives. There may also be people who did! not hear of the appeal who would still like to be associated with it. If so, donations may be sent to the secretary, War Memorial Appeal, 220 Victoria Avenue. Wanganui.—l am, etc., (Rev.) J. R. L. HIGGS. Christ Church Vicarage, - * Wanganui
