Mail Parcels For Britain; Last Year’s Figures Exceeded
WELLINGTON, Yesterday (PA).— With a little more than a month of the present year remaining, bags of parcels packed by the Wellington Overseas Mail Despatch Depot for Britain has already exceeded last year’s figures of 81.510 bags. On Wednesday, postal officials placed seals on the 81,716 th bag to be made up in Wellington this year. By Monday, this bag, together with 6000 others, will be aboard the Haparangi, which is to sail on Tuesday for London.
Four shipments, totalling over 10.000 bags of parcel mail, are expected to leave New Zealand for the United Kingdom up to December 30. The major part of this total will be bags made up in Wellington. In the last ve months over 250,000 parcels have been sent from New Zealand to Britain. In October, 150,945 parcels were sent. This figure is a stepe increase over the number for June, 57,311. The July figure, 12,000, jumped sharply to 83,000 for August, with another increase to 115,000 for September.
