Food Output Of Asia And Far East To Be Considered By U.N.O.
PARLIAMENT BLDGS., Nov. 26 (P.A.)—Reports on the economic condition and agriculture output of Asian and Far Eastern countries will be considered by the United Nations Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East, which meets at the Lapstone Hotel, near Glenbrook, New South Wales, on Monday.
The New Zealand delegates, Brigadier F. L. Hunt (External Affairs Department). Mr. A. McGregor (Treasury Department), and an advisor, Mr. J. H. Weir (External Affairs), left Wellington by air yesterday for the conference. This will be the fourth session of the Commission since it was set up in March, 1947. Previous sessions have held preliminary investigations into economic reconstruction in Asia and the Far East.
The coming session will deal with reports on industrial development, trade promotion, technical training, food production, and allied subjects. One of the most important reports, prepared with the assistance of the Food and Agriculture Organisation, deals with the elimination of bottlenecks impeding higher food production.
