Australia Plans To Harness Four Rivers For Hydro Power
CANBERRA. Nov. 28.—An investigating committee has recommended the building of new hydro-electricity plant to save 4,000,000 tons of coal a year. The scheme proposes the harnessing of the waters of the Snowy, Upper Murrumbidgee, Tumut and Tooma Rivers to produce 1,750,000 kilowatts of electricity. The investigation was carried out on the request of the Federal. New South Wales and Victorian Governments. The scheme envisages the production of electricity at half the present cost and also the diversion of waters of the Snowv River inland for the irrigation of over 4,000,000 acres of parched land.
