LINER WANGANELLA COMPLETES SEA TRIALS AND IS PASSED Al
WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA). —The finer Wanganella, after extensive trials in Cook Strait today, was passed 100 Al by Lloyds and the Marine Department surveyors. “The trials have been very successful, even better than we hoped for,’’ said the Marine Superintendent of the Huddart Parker Company (Mr. D. Eadie). The chief engineer (Mr. J. Wylie) interviewed in the engine-room of the Wanganella while the vessel was cruising at 16 knots on speed trials, said the trials had gone without a hitch.
"The Wanganella is just as good as she was when she first returned to the passenger service after the war,” said her new master, Captain H. F. Norrie, when the shin berthed again at Queen’s Wharf, “The trials have shown that the work put into the ship is a credit to New Zealand craftsmanship. They went off perfectly.’’
The Wanganella will make five fortnig'itly trips from Wellington before she starts an alternative monthly service, Sydney-Wellington and Sydney-Auckland. This, together with the full timetable, was announced by the Marine Superintendent (Mr Eadie) after the liner had completed her trials. The Wanganella is scheduled to leave Wellington on December 9 and 23, Januar. 6 and 20, and February 3. She will arrive In Wellington on December 20, Jo.nuary 3 and 17 and 31. She is expected to leave Sydney on December 16 and 30 and January 13 and 27 on her first voyage to Auckland. She will leave Sydney on February 10.
I The remainder of the liner’s crew ' are expected to arrive by Skymaster ■ in Auckland on Saturday and Sunday. They will be carried by two planes and are expected in Wellington on I Sunday and Monday.
