Garden Party Raises £100 For Northern Carnival Princess
A sum of £lOO was raised at a garden party held in the gardens of the residence oE Mr. and Mrs. E. H. LBernau, St. ohn’s Hill, on Saturday, to further the candidature of Miss Judith Collier, Northern Princess in the Wanganui Scots Memorial Hall queen carnival.
Mr. A. McSkimming, president of the Wanganui Scots Memorial HaU' Society, officially opened the garden party, and the Wanganui Highland Pipe Band was in attendance. With Mrs. W. L. Russell as convener, the following ladies had charge of the stalls:—Mesdsames E. H. Everett (sweets), L. Gilberd and M. G. Bignell (cakes), and T. H. McWilliams and J. B. Davis (produce), assisted by helpers.
Mrs. Bernau was in charge of the afternoon tea, which was served in the garden. Entertainment included competitions.
Also in support of Miss Collier was a successful dance organised by the Westmere Young Farmers’ Club and held in the Westmere Hall on Saturday night.
