Marton Bowlers Have A Win Over R.S.A. Club From Wanganui

Ideal conditions prevailed for the home and away bowling match with the W anganui U.S.A. Club, played on Saturday. The Marton green was once again tilled to capacity with eight full rinks. Four Marton rinks visited the R.S.A. Club.

The Wanganui visitors were welcomed at the Marton green by the vice-president, Mr. A. Hutton, who stated that this was the first official visit to Marton from members of the R.S.A. Club—a recently formed and flourishing club from the River City. The match at Marton resulted in a win for the home team by three games 86 points, to one game 69 points.

Results were, R.S.A. rinks being mentioned first:— Dean, Brown, Brittain, Stewart 14. lost to Adams, Strafford, Osborne, Gibbs 25; Wakely, Rowell, Anderson, Johnson 17, lost to Nicol, McConachie, Smart, Morris, 21; Hall, Fairweather, Goldsmith, Aitken 11, lost to L. Smith, C. Hamer, G. H. Smith, Barton 26; Thomas, O'Reilly, Gray, Pocock 27, beat S. A. McDonald, Brown, Hutton, Hamex* 13. Other games resulted as follows, all .games played counting for a round of the club fours’ championship:— Parlane, Walters. Petrie, Thompson 18, beat Lawson, Gibson, Baines, Bland 13; Mogridge, Jonski, Bending, Jarden 25, beat McKihT.on, Aitken, Black, Kilpatrick 17; Whyburn, Harry Clark, Higginson, Jack McDonald 21, beat Abbott, Watson, Freeth, Atkinson 17; Rosser, Whitehead, Lovelock, Hunter 27, beat Phillips, Webb, Bert Clark, Upchurch 13. Members are asked to note the change of date for the “Bone of Contention” match against Wanganui East. This will now be played on Sunday, December 12, and seven rinks will be required to travel. Bus transport will be arranged. A home and away match with Oroua (Feilding) will be played on Saturday, December 11, and members are urged ao place their names oi\ the board without delay. SWIMMING CLUB NIGHT “Prospects for the swimming season appear excellent and the membership should top the hundred mark at an early stage,” said Mr. N. J. Clark, president of the Marton Amateur Swimming Club, when intimating that the first of the season’s club nights would be held tonight (Monday). The club intends to resume its learn-to-swim campaign, with instructions free for those who avail themselves of the opportunity It is also intended to arrange the season’s schedule so that the baths will be available for the public, particularly the children, more frequently than has been possible in the past. ONLY WOMEN’S SOFTBALL PLAYED ON SATURDAY Because Ajax defaulted to Tigers, in the only game arranged, no men’s softball was played in Marton on Saturday, but the two women’s matches were played as scheduled. At Marton, Cubs defeated Athletic by 23 runs to 20. B. Kinloch (Cubs) scored two home runs and B. Hayes (Athletic) one. In an excellent game at Nga Tawa, Tigers (10) beat Nga Tawa (6). The Nga Tawa team contains some promising material and with a little coaching will be a force to be reckoned with latex’ on. SOUTH RANGITIKEI CRICKET TEAM TO PLAY NORTH. The selectors announced the following team last night to represent South Rangitikei in the trial match against North Rangitikei. at Taihape, on December 4 and 5: M. M. Marshall (Porewa), captain; M. Efforts are now being made to sponsox* a third queen in the forthcoming Fire Brigade carnival, which opens on Saturday, January 29, with a gala afternoon on Marton Park. Already support has been given to a Town and Fire Queen, and this evening a meeting is being held in the Fire Brigade Hall of those interested in sponsoring an Irtdustries and Commerce Queen. PERSONAL. Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Sherriff, Huntley School, Marton, have returned to New Zealand after an extended vacation in England. Mr. R. L.
