Jackie Guy And Lady Averil Win At Hutt Park

WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA).— The Wellington Trotting Club concluded its spring meeting al Hutt Park yesterday in beautiful weather on a reasonab.y fast track and before a large crowd- Features of the meeting were the outstanding performances of Jackie Guy, who qualified for the Auckland Trotting Cup, and Lady Averil, both of whom won the principal distance and sprint events on the respective days. After a bad beginning in the Wellington "Handicap yesterday and skipping twice Jackie Guy finished brilliantly in the straight to beat Free Fight by a nose in a photo finish. In the Spring Handicap Lady Averil fought out a stirring finish with Positive and Dyrham Lea to get the decision. Lady Averil’s performances at the meeting were very consistent, she having won twice and being second and third in four starts. The totalisator handled £93,800, compared with £85,545 10s last year. For the meeting £167,416 went through the machines compared with £156,431 10s last year, an increase of £10,984 10s.
