Grand Juror’s Reason For Being Late At Supreme Court
When asked to explain why he had not been present at the Supreme Court, Wanganui, yesterday when his name was calk'd, a man summoned to serve on the Grand Jury, John Lee, said that an excuse was degrading at any time. He had none to offer. Mr. Justice Christie: I do not. have much time for excuses, either. The Juror explained that, his reason for not being present was a lapse of memory. He had forgotten about the sessions. His Honour: How do you happen to be here ? The juror: The police telephoned to say that I was required here and I did not waste any time. The juror added that he had served on the - Grand Jury on several previous occasions, but this was the first time he had forgotten to attend the Court. His Honour: D’d you not know that the Court was sitting today? “I certainly did know that the Court was sitting, but I forgot to be here,” he Juror replied. He added that in his work he was particularly busy on Monday mornings. His Honour: I am prepared to accept your reason, but be more careful next time.
