Table Tennis Concludes In RangitiKei With Handicap Tournament

Some 70 players participated in the Rangitikei Table Tennis Association's handicap doubles tournament held in the Marton Victory Hall on Wednesday night. This tournament served as a wind-up event lor the season and plav was divided into five sections — three in the A grade and two in the B grade, the winners were: A grade: Section 1. E. Diehl and J. Nesbit (Marton). Section 2, A. Gardiner and Russell Lourie (Tutaenui). Section 3. A. Smith and I. Buchanan (Marton). In the final, Smith and Buchanan defeated Lourie and Gardiner 31-25. B grade: Section 1, B. Higginson and K. Smart (Marton). Section 2, Mrs. Moss and J. Gardiner (Tutaenui). The final won won by Mrs. Moss and Gardiner. President of the association, Mr. G. Hunter, afterwards reviewed the play of the past season and presented the trophis to the various winners. The championship shields in the interclub competitions were also presented, Tutaenui winning the A grade and Stanway the B grade. The evening concluded with the serving of supper the arrangements being in the very capable hands of Mrs. G. Hunter.

O’Leary is a visitor to Marton and is the guest of Mr and Mrs. J. Kendrick, Ross Street, Marton. Group Scoutmaster. Mr. E. J. Street, Marton, has been awarded the New Zealand Boy Scouts’ Association long service decoration in recognition of his faithful and meritorious services to the movement for the past 25 years. Reference to this outstanding award was made by Mr. H. L. Grut. chairman of the Marton Boy Scouts’ Association, at the “going up" ceremony held in the Victory Hail on Thursday night when he congratulated Mr. Street on receiving his decoration. Mr. G. E. Mitchell, Postmaster at Marton, is at present on annual leave. Mr. S. P. Davies, Wellington, is acting as relieving postmaster at Marton. MARTON TABLE TENNIS CLUB’S CHAMPIONSHIPS DECIDED. The Marton Table Tennis Club ended a very successful season’s activities last week when the chairman, Mr. G. Hunter, presented trophies to the winners of the various competitions as follows: — Ladies’ championship, Mrs. R. Crawford; men’s championship, R. C. I Ball; ladies' B grade, Miss K. Jones; I men's B grade. T. Stent; handicap doubles, J. Managh and Miss G. i Managh. The captain. Mr. T. Domett, on behalf of the club, presented Miss H. Hunter with a small gift in recognition of her valuable services in hand- ! ling the supper arrangements throughout the season. REFORMATION MISSION RALLY AT LUTHERAN CHURCH. The annual reformation-mission rally is being held at the Marton Lutheran Church tomorrow, when visiting pastors will deliver appropri--1 ate messages in the morning and afternoon. Rev. G. E. Fischer, president of the Lutheran Church in New Zealand, will be the morning speaker, while in . the afternoon, the itinerant missionary I the Rev. C. I. Koch will occupy the ; pulpit.
