GOLDEN WEDDING. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thurston, of Levin, celebrated the golden jubilee of their wedding on Saturday evening in Taihape at a function where over 80 relatives gathered to honour them. R.S.A. WOMEN’S SECTION. As the R.S.A. Women's Section will celebrate its fourth anniversary next, month, it was decided at its last meeting, to hold a special social afternoon. Mrs. M. Jones kindly offered to make the birthday cake, donations of fruit, etc., being readily forthcoming. Each member was invited to bring a friend. CHILDREN’S PLAYGROUND. The Borough Council decided to refer to the Reserves Committee a suggestion from the Chamber of Commerce for the setting apart oZ a children’s play area in the Recreation Grounds and the provision of play equipment. A similar suggestion was made by a councillor two years ago, but was ruled out on the score of expense. FANCY DRESS PARTY. A children’s fancy dress party was one of the most successful events of Ihe Methodist rally which concluded last week-end. The hall was packed with children, and games, riddles and conjuring tricks provided the young people with entertainment. Supper was a popular feature. • The conveners were Mrs. Watson and Mrs W. Bosher, who had a large number of helpers. Mrs. Watson expressed thanks to visitors from all churches, and to the Revs. Allen Carr (Senior Youth Director) and H. I. Shaw. The following won prizes for their costumes:—Pinereta Fabling (Hinemoa) and Semple Fabling (Tutanekai), R. Bowick (Red Riding Hood), David Dellow (Dutch Boy), Nolene Coleman (Domino), G. Summerville (Duster), J. Johnson (Archer), Kathleen Logan (Miss New Zealand). HIGH BUILDING COSTS. When the Taihape Borough Council received a report from its Reserves Committee regarding a proposal to erect new children’s dressing sheds at the swimming baths (“the ' sheds to be erected so that they can be shifted to another site in the event of major alterations being made at the baths, should the baths be selected as a war memorial”), the town clerk stated that the estimates of cost of the proposed shed were over £3OO. The Mayor* We thought it would be about £4O. Is this an elaborate affair? Mr. Henham: No, your Worship. It’s not even lined. Cr. Emery: You don't get much for £4O these days, Mr. Mayor. Cr. Ashenden said it was obvious that they could not do all this work in the one year, but perhaps something could be put aside this year, and the work done next year. Cr. Emery: We could not open the baths as they are. Cr. Ashenden commented that if the polio outbreak became worse, they might not be allowed to open them. It was decided that temporary repairs be carried out. MUSIC EXAMINATIONS. Mr. ,A.
