Wanganui East Croquet Club Opens Its Season

The opening of the Wanganui East Croquet Club took place in lovely sunshine. Visitors were welcomed by the president, Mrs. A. E. Halligan, who thanked then, for attending, and she also thanked those who had helped to make the winter card afternoons such a success. The president also thanked Mrs. Goodger, the tea convener, and Mr. Hutchby, the new caretaker. Mrs. C. McLean, president of the Wanganui Croquet Association, in a brief speech, wished the Wanganui East Club a very happy and prosperous season, and said she hoped members would join in the Dominion tournament in January and also in the February tournament, both of which would be held in Wanganui. Mrs. Ogier ad Mrs. Norman Lynch were to be complimented on the honour of being appointed to manage the Dominion tournament, and Mrs. Drummond, who is to manage the February tournament. Mrs. McLean complimented the elub on having a good caretaker, saying that was prov.ed by the condition of the lawns and grounds. She then put the first ball through the hoop and declared the lawns open for the season. Sprays were presented by Mrs. Harris to Mrs. McLean and Mrs. Hallingan, prior to the serving of afternoon tea. Games were won as follows: Ladder, Mrs. Remington; skittles, Mrs. Kerr; crazy hoops, Mrs. Wilson. The competitions for the cake and table centre were won by Mrs. Dwyer and Mrs. Harris respectively.
