Women’s Division
Wangaehu Branch— The October meeting of the Wangaehu Womens’ Division was held in the evening in conjunction with the Federated Farmers. Both organisations conducted their meetings separately, then after the business was over met together to enjoy a supper served by the ladies and a short programme of items. Mrs. O. B. Hawken took the chair for the W.D.F.F. and presided over a good attendance of members, two new members Mrs Bell and Miss J. O'Reilly being welcomed. The president thanked members for the help given her in making the birthday afternoon the successful function that is had been, and mentioned that the trading store had been well supported and that from the proceeds of this the usual donation to the Makogai Leper Fund would be given. Mrs. Hawken also reported that the A. and P. Association officials had received the suggestion of reviving the W.D.F.F. displays of handwork at local show with enthusiasm. Discussion took place re the possibility of sending the branch’s food parcels to Britain in bulk and further information on this point was sought. The remainder of the business of the evening was spent in drawing up a schedule for the flower show which it is proposed to hold the second week in November, a comprehensive programme being drawn up to include: roses, cut flowers, decorative work. It was decided that members of sister divisions should be invited to compete. Mrs. C. Bartrum very generously announced her intention of donating a silver cup for the champion rose, this to be confined to district competition only. It was decided that there should also be a prize for open competition in this section. Other ladies who generously donated cash prizes were Mesdames Anderson, Milland, McNaught and Miss D. Castles, and a vote of thanks was passed to all these donors. Members were asked to be sure that all entries were good time, the stewards in chdjl?’ being: roses Mrs. Macintosh, decorative Mrs. Grant, cut flowers Mrs. Greavers.
Raptihi Branch— At the October meeting of Raetihi branch W.D.F.F. there was a very fair number of members present. The president Mrs. Malpas was in the chair. Competition results were: Bost bloom, Mrs. Bernard 1, Mrs. Mitchenson 2, Mrs. Ward 3; vase of polyanthus, Mrs. Bell 1. Miss Solly 2; shoulder spray, Mrs. Bernard 1, Mrs. Bell 2. November competitions will be, best bloom, vase of iceland poppies, six different blooms, and a comic hat. Hostesses will be Orautoha and Middle Road members.
