Britain Refuses To Let U.S. Mediate In Guatemalan Dispute
GUATEMALA CITY. Oct. 27 (Rec. 6 p.m.)—The Guatemalan Government announced today that Britain had rejected a proposal for United States meditation in the Anglo-Guatemalan dispute over the possession of Belize, British Honduras. The Guatemalan Government issued a statement saying: “In view of the impossibility of harmonising the points of view on terms for submitting the dispute to the International Court the Justice, Guatemala gave evidence of its goodwill by proposing I to Britain the mediation of a friendly I State. The British Government re- I jected meditation by United States. | Besides, by showing again the British Government’s intransigence and lack of goodwill to consider Guatemala's rights, this action is unjust.’’ The /atement directed attention of world opinion to Britain’s now refusal to settle the dispute amicably.
