Wanganui P. And T. Women’s League

More than 50 members attended the October meeting of the Wanganui P. and T. Women’s League, in the Old Folks’ Rest Room, Guyton Street. Mrs. Williams presided, and welcomed members and visiting artists. The speaker for th'e evening, Mrs. Marumaru, gave a most interesting account of her trip to Tonga as a guest at the Royal Tongan wedding. Her eye-witness account of the various functions preceding the wedding and of the actual wedding ceremony, solemnised both in Christian and Tongan fashion, was most absorbing. Mrs. Marumaru stressed the wonderful hospitality of the Tongan people. She exhibited several interesting keepsakes, including a beautifully woven bridesmaid’s basket heavily encrusted with shells.

Two items, a song by Mrs. C. Lee. accompanied by Mrs. H. R. Ogg, and an elocutionary item by Miss Lois Wilson, were very much appreciated.

A bring-and-buy stall, manned by Mesdames Snadoh and Stanley, was a most successful effort, and a prize for the best article of sewing, donated by Mrs. R. L. Horn, patroness of the League, was won by Mrs. J. Stewart.

It was decided to hold a Christmas party on the first Tuesday in December as a grand finale to the year’s activities, husbands and friends to be invited. Another happy evening drew to a close with the serving of supper by the hostesses for the evening.
