Petition Of Protest; Ship Desertion Penalty
WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA). —A clause in the Shipping and Seamen Amendment Bill providing imprisonment for up to six months for desertion from ships instead of th© present limit of one month, is the subject of a petition of protest being circulated on the waterfront.
Although not. sponsored by the Seamen’s Union, about 100 signatures are reported to have been taken among seamen. The petition is to be canvassed among watersiders tomorrow, and a deputation will approach the Minister of Marine, Mr. Hackett,
