German Officers And Professors Escaping From Russia
LONDON, Oct 27 (Recd 6 D m)— Western sector newspapers have published reports of several high-ranking German officers and professors in Russia escaping to the Western zones, says Reuter's Berlin correspondent.
The newspaper “Der Abend” said General Schreiber, captured in Russia during the war, is believed to have escaped to the Western zone of Germany while en route from Moscow to Berlin to take up an importiint post in the Soviet zone police force.
The newspaper “Telegraf” said an unnamed German general escaped to the Western zone after arriving in the Soviet zone for a “high appointment.” Other senior German officers similarly escaped. The “Neue Zeitung" said Professor Strasser. Finance Minister of the Mecklenburg Provincial Government, fled to the western zone of Germany. A music expert, Professor Gerstenburg, arrived in the western zone from Rostock University. All the professors at Rostock and Greifswald Universities in the Baltic have since been put under the control at the eastern zone political department.
