Atomic-Propelled Planes, Mail Rockets Likely Soon
(N.Z.P.A.— Special—Copyright.) LONDON, Oct. 27 (Recd. 6pm).—A leading German aircraft designer, Ernst Heinkel, who designed the world’s first jet plane, said in an interview at Windsbach that atomicpropelled aircraft should be developed within the next decade. Heinkel, who was recently convicted of Nazi activities by a denazification court, has himself abandoned aircraft designing and is devoting his attention to the manufacture of tractors and kitchen scales. He still, however, keeps closely in touch with all the latest developments in aircraft design. He considers it is quite possible that within the next five years it. will be possible to develop a rocket mail carrying service between America and Europe Heinkel said he was sure that Russian scientists were working feverishly, but that they were far behind i American research.
