Churches Protest At Mass Hanging Of Germans

(N.Z. P. A.—Copyright.) LONDON, Oct 27 (Recd 6 pm).— Cardinal Frings, of Cologne, head of the Roman Catholic Church in Germany, the Catholic Bishop of Munich, and the Protestant Bishop of Wurtemberg have protested to President Truman and to the United States and British Military Governors in Germany (Generals Clay and Sir Brian Robertson) and the United States Secretary of Defence (Mr. Kenneth Roy all), asking them to stay the executions of 100 German war criminals at present under sentence of death. General Clay recently confirmed the sentences and issued instructions that the Germans were to be hanged in batches of 20 a week. The first group was executed last week. The majority of the condemned were sentenced for torturing and illtreating Allied war prisoners in concentration camps.
