MARTON HOSPITAL
Approximately 3 years ago the Wanganui Hospital Board promised by resolution that if the residents of Marton raised £5OOO, then a six bed medical surgical hospital would be built at Marton. We have now learnt that such is not the case. At the September board meeting the controlling body broke all promises simply because the Health Department stated that if the Marton project was to be carried out Wanganui claims for extensions to their hospital may be hampered. Surely any sincere and level minded person will take exception to the ridiculous idea that a project such as is proposed for Marton will destroy the huge scheme envisaged for Wanganui. Marton residents have confident 1». awaited the deliberations of the controlling bodies but despite the unrelenting and commendable efforts of one of our County renresentatives on the board our long awaited War Memorial Hospital appears to have been shelved. The time has arrived for Marton residents to voice their strong disapproval of the disgraceful and unforgivable action taken by the Hospital Board. I am quite sure our rightful claims will be pushed with increasing vigour by the Borough Council. It is to be hoped that Marton residents will take this outcome seriously.—l am, etc., FAIR PLiAY.
