Labour Retains Seat At By-Election
LONDON. Oct. 8. The Labour candidate, Mr. Malcolm Macpherson, won the Stirling by-election by a majority of 2175 votes. The by-election became necessary following the death of the former Labour member, Mr. J. Westwood. Mr. Macpherson polled 17,001 votes, Mr. William Forbes (Conservative) 14,826, and Mr. Robert Curran (Scottish Nationalist) 2836. Labour has held the seat since 1935, and had a majority of 4003 at the 1945 General Election. Seventy-three per cent, oi the electorate voted.
