English Bankers On A Goodwill Tour Of N.Z.; Brief Wanganui Visit

Three representatives of the largest bank in the British Empire, the Midland Bank, in Britain, were visitors to Wanganui for a brief period yesterday in the course of their goodwill tour of New Zealand. They were Mr. A. Allan, Mr. G. Gates and Mr. E. J. Hellmuth. Mr. Hellmuth and Mr. Gates are members of the management of the Midland Bank’s overseas branch and Mr. Allan is attached to the economic research department. The primary object of their tour, which will include Malaya, China. Japan and India, is to visit th? bank’s commercial friends and to assist in Britain’s post-war economic drive. Their visit is the first made by members of the “Big Five” banks in Groat Britain since tli<-» recent world war. The partv lunched at Foster's Hotel.
