Terrorists In Malaya May Get Taste Of Service Operations

Recd. 10.55 p.m. Singapore, June 28 Three service chiefs attended a special conference at Kuala Lumpur to discuss future operations against terrorists in the undeclared war in Malaya. The Commissioner-General, Mr. Malcolm MacDonald, General Sir Neil Ritchie, Commander-in-Chief of the Far Eastern land forces, RearAdmiral C. Cashion, flag officer of the Malayan area, and Air Vice-Marshal A. C. Sanderson air officer commanding the Malayan area, attended the conference. Under new amendments to the emergency regulations gazetted in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, anyone failing to report to the police any person believed to be guilty of an offence against public safety, may be punished by up to ten years' rigorous imprisonment. Forty armed Chinese last night launched a full-scale assault on the police station at Mentakab, 55 miles north.east of Kuala Lumpur. The police beat off the attack. Casualties have not yet been announced, but. it is known the Malay wife of a policeman was shot dead and a Malay corporal wounded. The terrorists withdrew to the jungle, carrying their wounded. In a savage clash at Bamfu Bahru yesterday, in which three terrorists were killed, Gurkhas used grenades. In Johore terrorists on Saturday shot dead a Chinese rubber tapper and criticallj- wounded a rubber foreman. This brings the killings since Friday to 13, all Chinese—ll at Johore and two at Selangor.

The police in Perak made importand arrests after raiding a house near Opoh, where British and Japanese equipment was found.
