CUT IN PETROL

EFFECT AS FROf, JULY 1 Wellington, June 23 From the beginning of July all petrol licences from five gallons upwards will be reduced by 10 per cent, and July and August coupons will be reduced in value. This was announced todav by the Minister of Supply, Mr. Nordmeyer. June coupons wifi be available at the full face value in June or July, but of the July coupons two will be available at face value and the third at half value, redeemaole in either July or August. Of the August coupons, two will be available at the face value and the third at half value, redeemable in August or September. The Minister said that on present evidence it appeared that after August, coupons would be available again at full value. “The reduction |i our consumption is necessary u we are to keep within our quota of 105,000,000 gallons this year,” said Mr. Nordmeyer. Consumption had not fallen appreciably during the winter months as had been anticipated and there was, therefore, no alternative to adopting measures to ensure that stocks were conserved. “The reduction in certain supplies from the Middle East means we cannot afford to take any risks,” said the Minister.
