Marton Youth Injured When Petrol-Soaked Overalls Set Ablaze

(0.C.) Marton, June 23. A human torch with his overalls ablaze, Colin Thomas, a mechanic, rushed out of a Marton garage yesterday afternoon and was saved from receiving more serious injuries when he was rolled in a pool of muddy water to extinguish lhe flames. Aged 19, Thomas is a son of Mrand Mrs. G. C. Thomas, Stewart Street, Marton, and is employed at a garage where a fellow employee struck a, match in proximity to his petrol-soaked overalls. As Thomas, with his eyes shut to protect them from the flames, ran out of the building, Mr. S. Bostock, realising the danger to which the youth was exposed, threw him into a muddy pool and rolled him over in the mud, putting out the flames.

Fortunately, a cap which Thomas was wearing, protected his head, but his face was rather Severely burned, and he suffered from shock He received burns on his hands when trying to undo the overalls. He received attention from Dr. R. A. Church and was later taken to his home.
