145 State-Assisted Settlers To Go To 27 Towns In Dominion
(P.A.) Wellington, June 9. A total of 145 Government-assisted settlers will arrive in Wellington by the Mataroa this afternoon and will go to 27 towns in 20 employment districts throughout the country. This is the widest distribution yet achieved by the Department of Labour and Employment and has resulted largely from offers of private accommodation following the Minister’s recent announcement that preference would in future be given districts and c ployers able to provide suitable boarding accommodation. Of the newcomers, 108 will go to North Island destinations, and 37 to the South Island. There will be 49 women and 96 men in the draft. They will fill jobs as nursing staff, engineering tradesmen, printing tradesmen, footwear operatives, and tradesmen for the Post and Telegraph and State Hydro-Electric Department.
