AUSTRALIAN MINERS MAKE APPLICATION FOR 35-HOUR WEEK
Recd. 11,31 p.m. Sydney, June 9. Miners throughout Australia today asked for a 35-hour working week.
The application was made by the Miners’ Federation at a conference called by the Coal Industry Tribunal (Mr. F« Gallagher). The federation claimed that a reduction from 40 to 35 hours should be without loss of pay for day workers; contract rates should be increased with the shortening of the hours; a 35hour week should be worked in seven shifts, Monday to Friday, and include a half-hour “crib” time each day.
The president of the federation (Mr. I. Williams), said evidence would be called in all States except South Australia.
