Record Entries For Wanganui Cage Bird Annual Show
The record number of 500 entries has been received by the Wanganui Canary and Cage Bird Club for its annual show this week. Birds from every North Island centre, and some from as far afield as the South Island, will be exhibited.
For three successive years the title of “best British variety" has been awarded the blackbird, but competition in this class should be keen this year with goldfinches, greenfinches, chaffinches, redpolls and thrushes benched. Birds from Australia and South Africa will represent the “foreign” section, their gorgeous plumage being a feature. Years of painstaking breeding have developed many hues from the natural green colouring of the budgie, and with new colours appearing each year, the bird will receive special attention. Interest will be further provided by the canary exhibits.
