Kohi W.I. Celebrates Sixteenth Birthday
With decorations of streamers, flowers and greenery, the Kohi Hall presented a gay scene recently when a large crowd assembled to celebrate the sixteenth birthday of the Kohl Women s Institute. A euchre party took up the first part oi the evening, the winners being Miss Myra Morrison and Mr Akin, the consolation going to Mrs. McDonald. A programme was then enjoyed, items being given by the following: Mrs. Lennox, a bracket of songs; Mrs. Anderson, recitations; Mr. O'Leary, violin solo, Mr. and Miss Kelly, duet; Mr. Allan Sturzaker (Wanganui Garrison Band), cornet solo; Miss Hilda McDonald, sailor’s hornpipe; Misse» J. and O. Lennox, Highland fling, with bagpipe accompaniment played by Mr. Stratford. A delicious supper was served by W.I. memoers. Those taking part in the birthday cake candle ceremony were Mrs. W. Morrison,, Miss B. Downs and Mrs. S. Anderson (president). The cake was made by Mrs. R. Fraser and iced by Mrs. B. Waterland. As the sliced cake was handed round, all sang “Happy Birthday to You." Mrs. E. Downs and Miss B. Downs, who are leaving the district, were presented with gifts. Shoulder sprays made by Mrs. A. S. Hone were also presented to Mrs. and Miss Ddwns and to the women artists. The president, Mrs. S. Anderson thanked all for attending and making the function such a success. The “Waverley Merry Macs” provided the music gratis for the dance which lasted until the wee small hours, extras being played by members of the Patea Pipe Band. Mr. A. S. Anderson was M.C. AU proceeds were given to the “United Nations Appeal for Children.” Mr. D- Hughes, chairman of the Waverley Town Board thanked the Kohi women for their efforts.
