Watersiders Seeking Substantial Increases In Rates Of Pay
(P.A.) Wellington, June 8 A case fdr a substantial wage increase for waterside workers has been prepared by the national oflicers of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union and will be considered at a meeting of the national executive of the union tomorrow.
The case will involve a claim for up to a shilling an hour increase in wages. It will be based on the reduction of the margin between the basic wage rates of New Zealand watersiders who receive 3s 8d hourly and of Australians whose rate is quoted at 4s 9d hourly.
