Martial Law Sought In Malayan State
Recd. 11.12 p.m. London, June 8. Reuter's Ipoh correspondent says that an emergency meeting of 100 Perak estate managers decided to ask Sir Edward Gent, High Commissioner of the Federation of Malaya, to declare a State emergency and impose martial law in Perak State because of “appalling present lawlessness.” One speaker described the situation as one of wholesale disregard for law. The meeting called for the reimposition of the death penalty ror carrying arms and blamed the weakness of the civil Government for a "deplorable situation.”
