SHORTAGE OF MILK

INADEQUATE PRICE FOR FARMERS A CAUSE (PA.) Wellington, May 26 Weather conditions last autumn and recently were not entirely to blame for the milk shortage, said Mr. J. J. Maher, chairman of the Wellington Dairy Farmers’ Association. Leaving out the weather, the fact was that there had been no inclination to pay the producer an adequate guarantee for winter milk. Mr Maher contended that townspeople needed little imagination to appreciate what it was like for dairy farmers to struggle with a large herd, either in the cold of winter’s morning or ate afternoon, or early evening. Rep esentations had been made to the Government for an adequate compensatory price for winter milk, but without avail. The result was seen today in the shortage of milk. Had sufficient guarantee been forthcoming from the Government in response to representations of two years ago. then, despite the weather setbacks, there would be sufficient milk today

Rigid planning could not be set against both Nature and elementary justice to the producers.
