Death Of Former Skipper Of Coastal Vessel Hauturu

A former master of the small coastal vessel Hauturu, a regular visitor to the Port of Wanganui for many years, has died in Auckland. He was Captain F. G. Shirley, whose death occurred last week at the age of <56 years after a short illness.

Born at Gisborne. Captain Shirleyserved for a short period in sailing ships before joining the Richardson Line of Napier. In August. 1913. he joined the Northern Steamship Company and was senior master at the time of his death. He was one of the most experienced masters on tiie New Zealand coast. He is survived by his wife, one son and one daughter.
