TWO FURTHER RUGBY TOURS PLANNED FOR WANGANUI PLAYERS

A resolution to undertake two further tours, by a senior and junior team, respectively, next season, was passed by the management committee of the Wanganui Rugby Union at its meeting last night. Both tours will embrace fixtures with ateast three major unions, the senior team's proposed itinerary comprising matches with Waikato, Auckland and North Auckland, and the junior team's programme including games against Wairarapa, Hawke's Bay, Bush Districts ami/ or Manawatu.

The teams will be away about five days, over a week-end. “The mere suggestion of these two tours will act as a badly needed tonic among the junior grade players,” commented tKe chairman (Mr. J. Moye) in proposing that a recommendation be made to next year’s incoming committee to the effect that the trips be made. “In addition, we owe a visit to these northern unions," said Mr. Moye, “and now is the time to fulfil such obligations.” “It is significant that the South Island tour we are making this season was only embodied a year ago in a suggestion such as the present one,” he concluded.

Complete advocacy and support for the proposal was registered by delegates, and, on the motion of Mr. E. Barnett, seconded by Mr. A. Lockett, it was recommended that both senior and junior representative tours of the North Island be undertaken In the 1949 Rugby season.
